Susanna is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist with over 30 years of experience working as a health care practitioner within the NHS, Social Services and in Private Practice.

She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the British Psychological Society (BPS). She is an accredited BPS supervisor and a recognized BUPA Consultant. She has recently worked at Watford and Bushey Community Mental Health team and keeps an active network with former colleagues, returning on occasions to do assessment work.

Background

Susanna’s career started in 1985 in the NHS as an Occupational Therapist. Working in both physical and mental health settings, she developed a particular interest in coping practically and psychologically with severe physical disability.

In her 30s she took a career break to have a family and had her own physical and mental health challenges which culminated in her decision to train as a Counselling Psycholgist. Her first piece of research was on the links between Sleep Deprivation and Postnatal Depression. This was followed with research into the Counselling experiences of physically disabled clients.

Approach

Susanna is passionate in her belief that mental health issues are a normal part of human existence and that we all move up and down a spectrum depending on our individual histories, personalities, life stage development and life events. Her approach to treatment is flexible but also rigorous and highly professional.

Susanna is trained and experienced in the Cognitive Behavioural, Psychodynamic and Person Centred approaches to therapeutic therapy. She has undertaken additional training in Mindfulness and Trauma Based CBT, working with Psychosis, Anxiety Depression and PTSD. She has many years experience of working with addiction and substance misuse, anger issues and bereavement.  Susanna does short and long term treatment and offers booster sessions to clients who have successfully overcome their issues but need an occasional revision of coping strategies or help with a particular crisis.

Interests & Specialism

Susanna has a particular interest/specialism in managing depression, anxiety, panic attacks. post natal adjustment and issues associated with physical disability and chronic pain.
